Screaming Ham Jam Skate Comp - Shoreham

Sunday the 5th Sept saw the first “Screaming Ham Jam” Skate Comp at Shoreham Skate Park - sponsored by Ocean Sports, Santa Cruz, Independent and Red Bull. All that witnessed it will agree it was an amazing day packed with gnarly radness! We were there at 7am for a quick skate, then up went the Ocean Sports Mobile Skate Shop Marquee and down came the rain! Luckily this was short lived and the guys from Crawley had the foresight to bring big squeegees, so it was soon mopped up and the park was skate-able again…

Ham Jam Skate Comp

It all kicked off with the under sixteen’s, which was one of highlights of the day seeing kids as young as 6 tearing around the bowl! Pretty cool considering their age, but when you add in MC Geordie booming at them and loudness of the music you got to give them credit ….

Next up was the Masters which gave the crowd another awesome show, some of the best old skaters in country had a blast in the bowl - the oldest was almost 50 but this didn’t factor in their skating….

Next up was the Pro-Am which bought some of the hottest skaters in country to Shoreham. The format was simple - cash for tricks…. Skaters got higher and higher and tore every inch out of the bowl and the best moves got the cash. The highest air in the deep end saw Trevor Johnson almost six feet out at one point! We left at nearly 7 o’clock and the park and bowl was still busy.

Big thank you to Geordie who pulled the day together - what a showman! Despite some of his material being a little high brow (not to mention his rapping!) he kept the crowd amped all day long! Also thanks to all the skaters young or old and crowd that made the day such a great experience.

We are already in talks for the Old School Jam which will show case Skateboarding’s 70’s heyday so again a chance for the old guys to show how it was done back in the day!

LATEST INFO.....

With registration from 10am the new skate park facility in Shoreham-by-Sea will witness some of the best UK Professional Skateboarders competing for a share in £1000 of prize money at the First Annual HAM JAM Skateboard festival. As sponsored by Santa Cruz Skateboards, Independent Trucks and Ocean Sports Boardriders (Kings way, Hove) with additional support and energy from Redbull and Redbull Energy Drinks Team.

Opened in May, 2010, Shoreham skatepark on Ham Road (off Eastern Avenue) has quickly established itself as one of the leading skateboard facilities in the country. The Skatepark and more specifically the ‘bowled area’ has attracted some of the best skateboarders in the world (Tony Hawk) and has raised the bar for local authority skate park provisions in the UK.

The Bowl - Shoreham Skate Park

The Ham Jam is the first official event organised for the skate park and its local community. Not only will this event give the opportunity to celebrate the success of the local skateboard user group in getting this facility financed and built. But it will also be a chance to peek into the future and get a glimpse into what this facility will provide for the area and its users.

The fist skateboard ‘Jam’ will commence at midday for the Under 16’s category, with the Masters Category (over 40) at 1.30pm and the PRO/AM category running from 3pm.

For those that choose to come and join in with the celebrations there will be Music with live DJ, MC’ing of the event, as well as prizes and give aways from sponsors for both athletes and spectators. Freshly catered food and beverage’s will also be available on site at the skatepark. Expect to see a superior spectacle of skateboarding with massive ariel manoeuvres, ridiculous technical tricks and an abundance of the best skateboarders in the UK (if not some of the best in the world).
